Welcome to the virtual living room of Totnes artist Julia Kelland.
Julia Kelland creates striking and vibrant works of art. A unique dialogue is built upon the paper as she transforms ‘accidentals’ and realistic representations of wildlife into colourful images. This process lends each piece a life of its own.
Inspired by regular courses at West Dean College with many works derived from tapestries seen there, Julia's art grows from strength to strength as she has at last returned to her ‘beloved’ Devon.
I have been attending art courses regularly since the mid 1980's and originally painted exclusively in oils, and then went once a year to West Dene College in Sussex where I was introduced to mixed media.
I moved back to Devon in 2000 and have continued to attend regular workshops in Wales. I paint regularly in my studio and with a group of exciting artists near London.
I have had two very successful exhibitions in Totnes in 2007 and 2008 and was artist in residence on three successive years at the Nant Y Coy Gallery in Pembrokeshire where visitors enjoyed my work at an exhibition in 2010.
I have exhibited at the Delamore Gallery in Cornwood in Devon and had a solo exhibition at the Flavel centre in Dartmouth in 2011.
I have had four very successful exhibitions at my home during Devon Open Studios in September 2009, 2010, 2012 and 2014 with over 330 visitors on each occasion and am looking forward to my visitors for DOS 2016.
My paintings are for sale and I have cards and glass worktop savers with my painting images on them; I also take commissions. Please contact me if you are interested.
